FAQ

Determining the frame size of a new bicycle

So you have already visisted Body2Bike? Then we have given you a list of all the measurements. This is the base around the frame. The frame itself though, has to have the right "size" as well. This is often misinterpreted by bike dealers because they start from the inner leg length. Additionally, every brand has its own geometry and therefore a different top tube length. And it is exactly this tube length that is the most important! A seat tube that is a few centimeters too low, can be accomodated by the seat post. If the top tube is too long or too short, this will often result in problems.

When choosing a new frame, you first look at the top tube length of your current bike. This may differ a few millimeters, but try to stay as close as possible to the measurements indicated by us, if that frame was the right size. If the top tube is too long, you will need a shorter stem and this often results in bad balance.

Never shift your saddle when a top tube is too long or too short! The height and setback of a saddle determine the rotation in your pelvis and this is a very important aspect. When building up your bike, first adjust the height and setback. Only then will you start at the front of the bike.

Every brand publishes geometry lists. When looking for the top tube length, always look for the straight line center-to-center pictured on the top tube.
