Do you remember the first time you were “fitted” for a bicycle? If your experience is typical, once you picked out the color of the bike you wanted, you were instructed to straddle the top tube with both feet on the ground. If the clearance was sufficient, the bike was deemed to be your size.
Inadequate position
We’ve come a long way since those days but a bikefit remains very much subject to the whims or beliefs of the personnel in the shop. You may wind up in the perfect position or you may find yourself just enough “off” to cause loss of power or – even worse – severe problems in knees, back, hips, neck or ankles.
Vital to performance
Proper bikefit and set-up are vital to your performance. Just look at top cyclists who invest heavily in wind tunnel testing and refine their positions on both time trial frames and regular road frames. A perfect bike position allows you to go faster using less energy, will prevent pain and discomfort during or after a ride, and will give you more control over the bike.
Positioning is personal
At Body2Bike, we believe that positioning someone on the bike is an individual process. We first look at your body's strengths and limitations, and listen to your personal background. Only then do we change your bike’s settings. To ensure that your body adapts quickly, you will get a set of specific exercises to work on at home.
