Body Work
Sports massage is like a body service. I often ask people if they have their car serviced every 10,0000km whether it has a problem or not. Most of them say yes. The same should apply to the body. Most injuries can be avoided if you just give your body regular maintenance.

If you are doing sports, you put hours into training and want your body to achieve to its maximum capabilities. Sports massage can help achieve that. No need to be a world champion to have a sports massage.
Massage, applied skilfully, is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the muscular-skeletal system. It can help prevent injuries, otherwise caused by overuse. A build-up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, and the muscles themselves.
Muscle imbalances may develop and go undiagnosed until they cause discomfort/pain or impede performance. A sports massage therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues in time and will help the sports person maintain a much healthier physical state.
Overuse may create imbalances in the soft tissues. When ignored and allowed to become chronic, they will hinder the sports person's rate of improvement. Furthermore, the athlete will run a higher risk of more traumatic forms of injury. For example, a cross country runner with a muscle imbalance will adopt a new running technique to compensate, but may suffer a secondary injury because this places a load on other areas of his body.
